The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia

ACTION TAKEN TO PROTECT MEMBERS

Dear Guild Members:

Just a quick note to inform you that the NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia has asked our attorney to request immediate protection of members against any data breach resulting from the cyberattack at The Inquirer.

A letter has been sent to Tom Zipfel, vice president of labor relations, which says in part that Guild members are “extremely upset with the Employer’s inadequate and unacceptable response to their concerns over the impact and personal jeopardy to which they have been exposed as a result of the security breach.”

The letter notes that consequences to Guild members from any data breach “can lead to both personal and financial problems that may have life-altering impacts on them and their loved ones.”

The letter reiterates a request the Guild made to the company a week ago: for two years of credit agency access at no charge to affected employees. And it promises “legal recourse” if an agreement to provide that coverage is not communicated to Guild counsel by Friday, May 26.

We’ll keep you posted.

In solidarity,

Diane and Bill
