FANTASTIC NEWS!
Dear Guild family,
Executive Director Bill Ross and I are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement with The Inquirer to represent 21 employees in Product Design and Engineering (PDE).
Last week we presented the company with cards signed by a majority of the group indicating their desire to become members of the NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia/CWA Local 38010.
What an absolute honor it is to have these talented folks join our union family.
We will soon begin bargaining a contract for this group, whose work is essential to our continued growth as a company and ability to connect with our audience.
Speaking of the company, I want to take this opportunity to thank its leadership for not fighting our effort to organize the PDE group as other journalism companies elsewhere are doing (looking at you Washington Post.) Acknowledging that these employees wanted and deserved union representation and not forcing us to have an election and take this to the National Labor Relations Board was an important demonstration of collaboration and valuing employees.
The Guild now has members in the newsroom, advertising, finance, circulation and PDE.
In unity, there is strength. And today, we are that much stronger.
