Layoffs Delayed

October 22, 2020billrossInquirer

Dear Friends:

Without any explanation, the Company has informed me and Bill Ross that “we are pushing the layoffs back to the week of 11/9.”

The skeptics among us will think: “Hmmm. Is that because we’re heading into a very busy news cycle for the next few weeks and need every journalist? Then they’ll cut five people?”

I’m not going to discourage such thinking but I’m going to take this as an opportunity to continue to push for the protection of each and every Guild job at The Inquirer.

I’m sorry that in a sense this prolongs the agony. But for now, take some deep breaths, do good work, engage in positive thinking (or prayer if you’re so inclined) and please take care of yourselves.

Worry won’t accomplish much. But you know what will? TWEETING out the #SAVELOCALNEWS campaign. Find one of the terrific Inquirer GIFs sent to you earlier today and let the world know why newsrooms should remain whole in these historic and challenged times.

In solidarity and strength,

Diane
