Local President Diane Mastrull elected to Vice President of Region 1 International NewsGuild Executive Board
Below is Executive Director Bill Ross’ nomination of President Mastrull to the NewsGuild International Board.
As Executive Director of the NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia, it gives me great honor to nominate our President, Diane Mastrull for the position of Vice President of Region 1 of the NewsGuild International Executive Board.
The NewsGuild’s future depends on strong leadership and individuals with the commitment to protect the rights of our members while being proactive to identify and address the many challenges facing our industry.
As Philadelphia’s newly elected President after 20 years as its Unit Chair, Diane’s many accomplishments as an outstanding leader, co-worker, volunteer and inspiration to the readers of the Philadelphia Inquirer, have prepared her to take on a bigger role to champion the initiatives necessary to grow and represent the voices of our Guild members.
Diane provides leadership to the largest newsroom in the State of Pennsylvania with over 200 newsroom journalists. This same newsroom, which in many ways is a microcosm of what we are all facing, is currently being challenged with gender pay inequities, commitment to diversifying its workforce, cultural shifts including millennial expectations, social media presence, and the immediate need for progressive management and union partnerships. Her experience and successes in dealing with these issues will serve her well as she embarks on this nomination.
As the winner of the 2017 Charles B. Dale Guild Service Award, I encourage you to go onto our website – www.local-10.com to read her nomination, Diane will remain committed to having a commanding influence on representing Region 1 and the International NewsGuild.
Please join me in supporting Diane’s nomination and to placing a vote for strong leadership that will represent the future of our industry.
