Overtime rules reminder

September 29, 2015billrossInquirer

Given the tremendous stress, accomplishment and satisfaction of our papal coverage over the past week, we would just like to remind everyone of our overtime rules.

Overtime is earned after working a 40-hour week and our work-week here is Monday to Sunday. If you worked more than 40 hours from last Monday through Sunday, you are entitled to overtime by Federal law. Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. So if you worked 48 hours between Monday and Sunday you should put in for 8 hours of OT and receive 12 hours of additional pay (at time-and-a-half). If you worked more than 8 hours in one day but not more than 40 hours between Monday and Sunday, you are not entitled to OT. If you choose to take comp time (and the Guild policy is to recommend you take the OT pay), then you are entitled to time-and-a-half in hours off. If you worked 8 hours of OT, you should get 12 hours of comp time.

The company has already used your outstanding, extra work for special sections and will soon be looking to profit off a coffee table book.

You worked it. You earned it. So put in for your OT.

In solidarity,
