The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia

Philly Guild makes pay gap strides, Diane Mastrull awarded top honor.

Guild members,

Please read the important update and recap from this year’s Guild –
CWA convention. There is a link in the story with our local’s report on the pay gender gap that has existed in the newsrooms, and the work we have done over 16 months to close the gap. Lack of diversity is a key factor we will continue to work on with
PMN management, and the Diversity committee.

Please also take note of this years Guild Service Award winner, PMN Unit Chairperson Diane Mastrull.  The David S. Barr Guild Service Award is the highest honor awarded by the Guild as voted on by her
peers for service to her Union.

For all of you who know Diane, it is no surprise
that she has asked that the $2,000 prize be donated to Back On My Feet, a running club that brings together mentors and homeless runners that seeks to revolutionize the way our society approaches homelessness.  Its unique running based model demonstrates
that if you first restore confidence, strength and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to tackle the road ahead, and move toward jobs, homes, and new lives.

Having Diane as such a caring, dedicated leader, makes our Union proud to have her. Congratulations Diane!!
