Re: A decent contract
Please negotiate in good faith with the Newspaper Guild and come up with a fair contract.
The Philadelphia Inquirer is what it is because of a great staff.
I will immediately stop my subscription to the Philadelphia Inquirer if the union is forced to strike.

In support of the Daily News
Dear union members,
It is an outrage that the owners of the Philadelphia Daily News would think to bring in outside workers to try to replace the veteran journalists who have worked so hard to make The Daily News such a fantastic newspaper.
It's an attempt to break the union, so they can bring down wages and reduce health care insurance contributions, among other things. We see through it. Readers of the Daily News will not tolerate that sort of mistreatment of workers, especially because so much is at stake for us, the readers.
Fight on. We support you.

Ms. Rodriguez sent the following message to Publisher Tierney:
Treat your employees as you would want to be treated
Mr. Tierney,
It is an outrage that you would think to bring in outside workers to try to replace the veteran journalists who have worked so hard to make The Daily News such a fantastic newspaper if there is a strike.
This is your attempt to break the union, to bring down wages and reduce health care insurance contributions, among other things. People like me, readers of the DN, see through it. We will not tolerate that sort of mistreatment of workers, especially because so much is at stake for us, the readers. We don't want our journalism dumbed down more than it already is. And we don't want inexperienced journalists who don't have the sources and knowledge of the city subbing for us.
Work out your differences with your workers. If you don't you are going to have a mess on your hands, a bad "product" as you in the business like to call newspapers, and a lot of ANGRY ex-readers.
Cindy Rodriguez

I wish you all happy holidays. I am keeping track of things and wish both sides to come to an agreement before Christmas.
I also understand what it takes to keep what has been fought for from the brothers and sisters before us.
If and when your local needs help let me know. I will contact my local to try to get support.

I will not support a non-union newspaper.
New ownership should bargain in good faith.
