This is from Stu Bykofsky, sent as your colleague and friend (and survivor of past strikes) not as the Guild spokesman.
The
company has been spreading word that other unions in this building would be
happy to cross a Guild picket line.
I doubt it.
Members of the craft unions have spent a lifetime honoring picket lines, and
hating the scabs who cross them.
Will they turn their backs on a lifetime of commitment now?
The Newspaper Guild has received countless offers of support from other
unions in the Greater Philadelphia area.
There is something seriously deficient in a “union leader” who announces in
advance that members will cross a valid picket line.
Any union that crosses a legitimate Guild picket line runs the risk of alienating itself from the labor movement here and beyond.
The
company is trying to sow the seeds of panic. Don’t let them.
Your union negotiators are working very hard, at this very moment, to get an
agreement that we can live with.
In the final analysis, in the event of a strike, we are not alone, despite
what the company would like you to believe.
